Frequently Asked Questions
General
What is 26ZOLL?
26ZOLL is a bicycle workshop in Vienna's Meidling district specializing in restomods of mountain bikes from the 90s. We rebuild old frames, mostly made of steel, to create modern, functional, and unique frames. These MTB frames from the 90s accommodate 26-inch wheels—hence the name!
We also offer repairs and services for all types of bicycles, whether they're 60 years old or just a few months old.
Where can I find your workshop?
You can find us at Längenfeldgasse 68/9/2A. The entrance is on Karl-Löwe-Gasse, opposite the elementary school. The workshop is located in a municipal building. If you're not coming by bike, the Flurschützstraße, Längenfeldgasse tram stop (62/Badner Bahn) is 200 meters away, and Meidling train station is about 1 km away.

Service & Repair
Do you repair all bicycles?
We repair all common types of bikes - old, new, city bikes, road bikes, mountain bikes, and gravel bikes. For large cargo bikes, please contact specialized workshops.
Do I need an appointment for a repair?
You're always welcome to drop by, but an appointment is faster. Use our contact form or give us a quick call. If you're not available during our opening hours, we also offer appointments outside of these hours.
How long does a repair take?
We usually complete small jobs (e.g., changing a hose) on the same day. For larger repairs, it depends on the complexity and the spare parts available—we'll let you know right away.
Custom Bikes & Restomods
What exactly is a restomod?
A restomod is a bike based on an old frame - at 26ZOLL, this is usually a 90s steel MTB, that we completely modernize both technically and visually. The result is a unique piece with retro charm and modern performance, perfect as a city bike, commuter bike, for bikepacking, and for light off-road riding.
Why steel?
Steel has a long tradition in frame construction. Hardly any other material is as durable and stable as steel. It's no wonder that old steel racing bikes and city bikes from the 1970s dominate the cityscape. Compared to aluminum or carbon, steel is relatively easy to repair. The handling characteristics of a steel frame are clearly noticeable. It rides smoothly yet is still stiff enough. Many people associate steel as a frame material with heavy and unwieldy bikes. But steel is actually the most sustainable frame material.
Why 26 inches?
For the first mountain bikes, the choice was deliberately made for 26-inch wheels – they were considered particularly robust and offered the necessary stability to withstand the demanding off-road conditions.
Wide 26-inch tires have almost the same outer diameter as narrow road bike tires—but a larger portion of that diameter consists of rubber and air. This means similar rollover characteristics, but with noticeably more grip, control, and comfort.
Can I have my own old MTB converted?
Yes! Bring your bike in – we'll discuss what's possible and make you a customized offer.
Do you also build custom bikes from new frames?
Yes! We have custom frames from Ritchey, Surly, and Salsa. If you already have one, we'd be happy to build one for you.
Do you also sell finished bikes?
Yes, we sometimes have a few finished restomods in the shop. All bikes are unique, so it's worth being quick.
